Hello and welcome to the Get Out While You Can website.

Let me ask you something that you probably haven't been asked before.

Do you know why you actually go to work?

It's a strange question because most people think the answer is as plain as the nose on their face. You go to work so that you can earn the money to pay the bills and provide for you and your family. That's the obvious answer, but it's not the real reason.

You go to work because that's what is expected of you.

In today's society, we are conditioned - even brainwashed - into accepting a life of employment or what is more accurately called wage slavery without question.

When you grow up you get a job. Everybody knows that.

I call this Plan A.

In theory it sounds great. Work hard at school, secure a good job, set your sights on promotion, climb the corporate ladder, live happily ever after.

The reality is however somewhat different. Work longer and longer hours just to make ends meet, condemned to a life of wage slavery, drowning in sea of debt, poverty of mind and spirit, existing merely to work.

So ingrained is the work ethic in our belief system, that when Plan A starts to go wrong we blame ourselves.

People would rather suffer sleepless nights, a nervous breakdown, even a heart attack, than stop working.

In fact, as any doctor will tell you, some people would rather die than face the fact that their job is killing them.

Others run up massive debts so that they can maintain a standard of living that wage slavery simply cannot sustain without the help of loans, credit cards and overdrafts.

• Did you know that UK consumers spent a record £9.63 billion on their credit cards alone during March, 2002? In fact consumer borrowing in the UK has doubled since 1995.

• And that according to Age Concern, almost half of pensioner households currently depend on state benefits for at least 75% of their income?

Let me ask you another question.

Is Plan A really all that the miracle of creation had in store for you when you first entered this world?

Because from where I'm standing, a lot of good people are giving their lives to wage slavery and getting very little in return.

(As a quick aside, I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories, but when you come to the realisation that Plan A is failing the majority of people, you start to wonder who actually benefits from it.
